ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING

Environmental Training is a service Vernadero provides to soldiers and civilians assigned to Army installations and facilities nationwide. The training incorporates a variety of subject matters including safety, transportation, environmental, logistics, personnel support, and fiscal responsibility. We also offer training for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) ISO 14001 program—also known as Sustainability Management Systems (SMS). Vernadero has experienced trainers offering the 24-hour Environmental Regulation Initial Course, the 8-hour Environmental Regulation Refresher Course, NEPA Training, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures training, as well as the Installation Spill Contingency Plan training course. Our courses can be tailored to meet your Installation’s needs.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION OF PROPERTY (ECP) REPORTS

The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) requires the Army to assess the environmental condition of property prior to entering into designated real estate transactions. Vernadero employs project managers and senior scientists with the expertise to guide you through the ECP process as painlessly and effectively as possible.

Clean Water Act Permitting SupportCLEAN WATER ACT PERMITTING SUPPORT

Vernadero’s environmental technicians are well-trained and proficient in the proper sampling techniques including decontamination, collection of samples, sample preparation, documentation including chain of custody, and laboratory transport. Whether it is related to potable water or wastewater, Vernadero can customize a compliance sampling program, including sample collection, analysis, and reporting, to meet any client’s needs. In addition to sampling, Vernadero staff members are well-versed in the preparation of regulatory reports and forms for submittal to state and local authorities.

Hazardous Waste Auditing, Management & ComplianceHAZARDOUS WASTE AUDITING, MANAGEMENT & COMPLIANCE

Vernadero has prepared a number of environmental compliance related documents on behalf of our clients in accordance with Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). For large quantity generators, Vernadero professionals have put together Installation Spill Contingency Plans (ISCPs), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans, Waste Analysis Plans (WAPs), and conducted Environmental Compliance Audits.

Regulatory Compliance ServicesREGULATORY COMPLIANCE SERVICES

Vernadero assists our clients through the maze of regulatory compliance issues. There are numerous permits for a variety of activities; it is challenging to be familiar with all of them. Vernadero has an experienced and diverse staff familiar with most permit applications and processes.

  • Waste Management and Chemical Management. These services include solid waste management, hazardous waste minimization, assessing generator status, and hazardous materials management plans. We help manage chemicals and the amount of waste produced to help reduce costs and prevent releases.
  • Solid Waste Management. Vernadero offers technical support for meeting permit application and compliance for landfill and mining clients. Activities that support these permit types include surface emissions monitoring, statistical data validation for groundwater, and preparation of permit applications, including recycling centers, materials recovery facilities, transfer stations, and storage bin & construction & demolition permits. We also assist with the permit application and compliance requirements to open and operate a mine.
  • Chemical Use Reporting. Facility requirements for facilities vary by geographic location. Common requirements include Toxic Release Inventories (TRI), Risk Management Plans for response to chemical and HazMat/Waste releases, and Fire Marshall Permits. Specific to TRIs, Section 313 of EPCRA (Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986) requires submission of EPA Form R, the TRI reporting form.

Industrial Hygiene and Indoor Environmental QualityINDUSTRIAL HYGIENE AND INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

Industrial Hygiene (IH) services at Vernadero anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control industrial workplace hazards. IH services are also applicable outside industrial facilities to address worker safety and toxin exposure.

  • Hazard Evaluation. Hazard evaluation includes IH sampling methods (sorbent tubes, pumps, filters, and the like) or direct reading instruments. After completion of an assessment of potential hazards, Vernadero prepares an IH sampling plan to evaluate identified hazards.
  • Hazard Control. Vernadero provides recommendations for hazard control. Principal control methods include engineering design to remove or avoid a known hazard. Examples include ventilation, hazardous materials substitution, and shielding (noise reduction).
  • Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ). Vernadero staff have more than 15 years of experience conducting IEQ assessments and are quite adept at IEQ problem solving and providing optimal solutions. Preliminary IEQ assessments typically involve interviews to assess potential symptoms, building visual evaluation, a ventilation system evaluation, and sampling for carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, temperature and relative humidity over multiple days.
  • Hazardous Materials Permitting. Permits for hazardous materials are required by several agencies and can include issues such as compressed gases, oxidizers, spray paint operations, flammable liquids, cryogenic liquids, among many other materials. Vernadero can help acquire and put together the information required to successfully obtain permits.
