Vernadero Group Inc. has completed design/build services for a major infrastructure improvement project to construct a replacement Army airfield hangar apron and ramp at Libby Army Airfield at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
The project included the demolition of the existing 3-acre facility and construction of a new 3-acre asphalt apron and ramp, concrete loading and unloading areas, and a concrete taxiway

with asphalt aprons connecting the facility to the existing airfield apron and ramp. Site drainage improvements and low-impact elements were incorporated into the design.
Our team successfully executed the placement of 30,000 square feet of specialty airfield Portland cement concrete panels within a 48-hour window at night to avoid the hot daytime temperatures of the Arizona summer and to improve material workability and finish quality. Vernadero also realized significant project savings for the client by reusing approximately 3,000 cubic feet of stockpiled asphalt millings to construct the base course.
