Ralph Tharp, AICP | Master Planner | Fort Belvoir, Virginia
Mr. Ralph Tharp, AICP, is a military master planner with 32 years of experience, focusing mainly on projects for the U.S. military at home and abroad. As a U.S. Army veteran, active duty, he has firsthand experience with the types of buildings and real estate used by military and civilian personnel at Department of Defense installations.
Most recently, he provided master planning to the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, for a proposed expansion of Camp Bullis for the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He also recently served as a community planner for the U.S. Navy at Camp Lemonnier in Dijbouti, Africa.
His achievements include being awarded the American Planning Association’s “Most Outstanding Federal Plan of 2008” for his work on the Baghdad International Zone Consolidation and Redevelopment Master Plan.
During his career, he has performed Installation Development Plan updates, asset management programming, demolition planning, space management, airfield expansions, housing facility development, roadway improvements, security and force protection planning, and GIS, among other services.
Mr. Tharp is a candidate for an MBA in Marketing Management from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, and he holds an MS in Urban Geography and BS in Urban Geography/GIS, both from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
